1) Criteria for Model of Cell:
-2D model
-Not bigger than
A4 size
-You may use
cardboard or plastic container as the base for the model.
-Use recycled
materials that can be found at home to make the model. You do not need to buy
materials.
Note: Do not use
coloured candies or food as they will attract ants.
2) Labelling
You are only required to label and create these parts:
Animal cell:
Nucleus
Cell Membrane
Cytoplasm
Plant cell:
Nucleus
Cell Membrane
Cytoplasm
Chloroplasts
Cell Wall
3) Research on the different parts of the
2 types of cells (Plant OR Animal)
and their functions.
You are required to make and label ONLY the required parts.
Note: You may wish
to include other parts that you are not required to make but it is optional.
Think of suitable materials that can best represent the different parts of
the cell that have their own specific
characteristics and functions.
A gallery walk
will be conducted in class on 25/3(Wed) after your March holidays. You have to
explain the reason for your choices to your peers.
Note: I would advise
you to spend 30mins to do research and 30 mins to make your
model.

Can we not make the model? I do not have any plasticine and I will be very busy as I would have my CCA camp from Monday to Wednesday and the rest of the week would be spent rushing to and fro from the tuition centre for make up.

ReplyDeleteYou should only take 30min to make the model. Hence, i'd suggest not to do a 3D model as it would require a longer time spent to complete it.

ReplyDeleteHi Shyan and Sebastian, a 2D model is one that displays a flat representation of 2 dimensions(length and breadth) whereas a 3D model displays the 3 different dimensions(width, depth and height). As such, a 3D model would be more time-consuming to make. An example of a 2D model can be made using paper cut-outs, by putting layers over layers of papers. For instance, a large rounded paper cut-out that is used to represent the nucleus can be placed over the base paper that is used to represent the cytoplasm.
ReplyDeleteYou may wish to create a 3D one if it is easier for you, but it is optional. You can just use suitable 3D objects and arrange them in the structure of a plant cell or animal cell.

Hi Cheryl, yes, you are right. A root cell does not have chloroplasts but it is a plant cell as it is taken from a part of the plant. If you are doing a plant cell based on a root hair cell, then your cell model will not have chloroplasts. We will explore more about the parts of root hair cells and the reasons for the absence of chloroplasts for root hair cell during our Lab session.
